I have the part I'm just not sure how to replace it. Do I just pull off the old cracked one and then push in the replacement? Are there clips to hold it in place?

And while I have the bezel off can I clean the woking parts for the knobs that control the tempature and time? What should I use to clean them?

The bezel is self adhesive. Pull off the old one, remove the protective paper from the new one and push it in.

I do not think it needs any cleaning.

I used "Simple Green" to clean just about everything on myTappan Deluxe.
I even got the clock to start running, by using Q-tips with Simple Green in between the gears...it now runs great!! The red glass bezels replace the white plastic rings around the gas knobs. I have 4 beautiful bezels that I may not be able to use, if I don't get a pattern/diagram how they're supposd to be hooked up. We're making our Tappan Deluxe in the Tappan Deluxe with the glass bezels...husband loves those bezels!! If anyone has a diagram of how the switches go, and the general lay-out of the wiring under the top of the stove, PLEASE...send it to me.....

I have a gorgeous 1937 Magic Chef I need to sell, so I have the space to put the Tappan in.
She's a beauty...only asking $600 for her. I'll gladly send pics to whomever may be interested.

I think you are my savior! I have just spent an hour or more on Chat with a fine Service Rep at Appliance Parts Pros dot com, trying to help me figure out how to replace the bezel they just sold me to replace one with totally worn off white lettering. The reply above shows a stove - not exactly mine - but with a similar looking control panel and bezel, so I'd like to jump in and ask you for assistance with removing the small STOP/CLEAR button on the upper left side of the bezel. (In the diagram, I think this button is item 11.) I have an older Magic Chef ceramic top range oven - it's a "drop-in" unit - with model number 58HK-6TXW. There is a knurled knob on the right side of the bezel where it says < SET >. This just pulls off. The smaller button on the left, where it says STOP/CLEAR just won't pull off. (It won't twist off either.) Can you help? How do I get this STOP/CLEAR button off? Thanks, Dennis

Hi Dennis,

The knob on the left side is not like a regular knob. Actually this is a button which plugs into the control board.

You have very carefully pull it straight out. Be advised it's very fragile and if it breaks than the piece left inside the control board almost not possible to remove.

Gene - Thanks for the quick reply. It was a confirmation of what I suspected, but I'd tried very hard to pull on it already...and twisting it (if it was screwed on) obviously wasn't working either. Sorry for the delay, but I waited a day or so...worked up courage...and yesterday I placed two common tip screwdrivers with small wedges underneath to give equal leverage, and then I tried to pull this part straight up. I think I applied a LOT of pressure...the whole assembly (bezel and underlying control/clock unit) seemed to raise up an 1/8 inch or so but with absolutely NO movement outward on the button (other than the 1/8 play it already has when pushed to reset and which allowed the screwdriver tips underneath it and the bezel). I am truly worried now about breaking it off. Any ideas?
If not, I guess I will just "gorilla it" again but harder until I get it out or it breaks off. I really am afraid if it breaks that I cannot get a replacement control unit for this old stove and I may end up having to buy another drop-in range. Turn the power to the range off. Try to inject a few drops of water along the shaft of the button to lubricate it.

Good idea...don't know if it worked (I tried it and waited an hour or so) or if the pressure I applied just caused it to finally come off. I used a small pry bar on one side, and a claw hammar on the other, trying to keep pressure even on both sides of the button. When it came off, it did so with a LOUD pop, and flew across the kitchen. I was certain I had busted it, but on inspection the button was intact. I took the old bezel off, and after cleaning thoroughly, placed on the new bezel on and replaced the button (went on much easier than it had come off!) and the right side knob. Looks much better now. Again, thanks for the advice. Boy, this was a lot of effort over a silly little button! Nice site...I appreciate your patience. Just (also) replaced a 3-4 year old Frigidaire dishwasher lower rack where the rubberized covering had worn and allowed some unsightly rust to bubble up around where the rubber was worn - the part was ordered and appeared UPS in only 3 days!
