I have an Amana stove/oven. I dont know the model number and it is approximately 10 years old. The stove top works, and the broiler works. But recently the oven will start to preheat and then suddenly just shuts off. Usually it will not get above 120 degrees before it shuts off. One time it make it to 350 degrees before it shut off. What is causing this and is it something that I can fix myself?

Oven will go to 350 but can't advance above that. The broiler works. Wondering if it is the oven heat sensor. Model number AER4311AAW and think it is 10 years old. Seems same problem noticed by you.

The model number is the only way we can look up the appliance to see how it was designed. We might even need its manufacturing (MF G) number as well.

Are both bake and broil elements glowing red during the preheat before it 'just shuts off' or just one of them?

Most ovens use both bake and broil element for preheat and then the broil element shuts off and just the bake element is used from then on for maintaining oven temperature.
