Re: Whirlpool double oven Mod. RBD276PDB12
Problem: Display went out, keypad keys still cause a beep when pressed, "Light" key still controls oven lights, "Start" key still locks and unlocks keypad.

Periodically display comes back on for a few seconds (10-20) and then goes off again. When the display comes back on it will sometimes display "E6 F2" and sometimes it will display normally (clock/time of day).

Sometimes when I am not looking I will hear 2-3 beeps. By the time I get in front of the oven the display is blank so I don't know if the display came on and then went off again when the beeps occurred.

What do you suggest - replace control board, control panel, control power transformer or something else?

The first thing I would do is check if the time of the day has not been removed from the display by mistake. Press the Clock button and hold it for 5 seconds.

Post the results.

That model number should probably read RBD276PDB12

That is suppose to indicate a problem in the 'cancel' button of the control panel.

Display went out

If that isn't caused by what Gene suggested, it would most often be caused by a problem in the electronic control itself. The lighting of the LEDs is controlled internally by the circuits of the electronic control.

Gene,
When the display would appear for a few seconds it would sometimes display the time of day so the time of day had not been removed.

Dan,
It sounds like you are saying that I should replace the control board. Did I read you correctly?

What Gene was saying is that it is a user option to turn off displaying of a time and maybe that is why it isn't displaying? (I don't think that setting would prevent temperature display while cooking though if that is also the case.)

If however the display came back on all by itself (ie. without anyone touching any buttons, etc.) a user setting is not likely the cause of the display being off.

If just the display is not lighting up and it is not the result of a user setting and the control has power (which would be there if it still beeped), I can't see the cause of that being anywhere other than in the electronic control itself in which case it would likely need to be replaced, yes. That however probably isn't the cure for the error message you also reported.

I agree with your comment about the error message, but the lack of display seems to say "replace the control board", which I am about to pick up in Houston. I'm also going to get a control power xfmr, which I probably don't need but it's only $15 and may save me a trip back into Houston.

By the way, as you noted I transposed the B and D in the model number and corrected the mistake in my original post.

More to come.

Yes, that may be a possibility too. On your model that is a separate part from the control whereas on most models it is incorporated right into the electronic control itself. I didn't see it listed with the control panel components so didn't suggest it was a possibility. Maybe you'll get away cheap needing only it?

Let us know how you make out.
