Default Whirlpool Gas Range - no gas to oven
Model Number: SF302BEG   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
Hi! I have a Whirlpool Gas Range (Super Capacity 465, Model #SF302BEG). The range works fine. The oven will not start. The igniter glows nicely, but will not start. I don't hear the gas start, or smell any gas after it's been turned on for 30 seconds - this is why I don't suspect the igniter. Could it be a safety valve or something? And how would I troubleshoot this? Or does it sound like it may be best to call in a professional?
I really wouldn't have any issues with trying to troubleshoot it myself.
Thanks! TC

The igniter can be bad even if it glows. You have to measure the current drawn by the igniter. If it's 3.2 amps or less then the igniter is the culprit.

- The part number for the oven igniter is AP3135265

Gene.

Default Does the igniter regulate the gas?

So, quick question then... Does the igniter regulate the gas as well as ignite? Because I wasn't getting any gas. I assumed I would.

I did take a look, and while I was behind the range I unplugged it. When I plugged it back in it worked again. I'm assuming this will be a temporary fix though. If the igniter does affect gas flow, then I will go ahead and assume it is the igniter, since I don't have a multimeter to check the amps.
Thanks. TC

You can learn how the oven igniter works from one of our previous posts: Oven won't lite?

Thanks Gene. That does help. I didn't know the two were that closely integrated, but I guess it makes sense for safety reasons.
I will look into replacing the igniter then. It seems like it shouldn't be too difficult to replace.
