Hi,
THis is my first posting.
I just ordered a replacement top broiler element for our old Tappan oven. The old one had a burned out section where the element was bent forward in the oven.
When I unscrewed the plate that holds the element to the back wall of the oven, I noticed that the wires leading to it,from behind in the fiberglass insulation, were missing some insulation for a few inches. They were dry and brittle.
Is there a way to coat or insulate these wires before replacing the element? Obvioiusly shrink tubing would not work in a hot environment?
THanks,
Dave

No. The wires could either be cut back to a where a good section of wire is and then attached to the element or if that would not leave enough wire, either a new piece of wire attached to a good section of the old or a whole wire installed in place of the original.

Dan,
THanks for the reply.
If I need to splice some in, do I need to buy a special high temp resistant wire to do this, and if so where would I get it?

Yes. It is usually rated 150°C and for an oven element would usually need to be 12 Ga.

Most appliance parts suppliers will sell it by the foot if you have such a store locally. The appliance manufacturers often have it available in 24' (or longer) rolls but I don't know Frigidaire's part number for it.

JFYI

I will try and find such a place. I live in a semi-rural area so will start at appliance repair places.
Thanks for the help,
Dave

One should be able to make up a whole replacement wire for you if you provide a sample of the original to duplicate.

Good luck!
