My stove, Amana model ACS3350AS works fine with the exception of the oven. All the burners and the broiler are OK. The igniter for the lower burner (oven) looks like it glows red hot but the lower burner will never turn on. What is the best way to diagnose this problem?

The ignitor glowing but gas not being released into the oven burner could be caused by a problem in the ignitor or the oven gas valve. And yes, an ignitor can glow and still be defective. The only way to diagnose which might be responsible (besides trial and error) is to measure the amperage draw on the ignitor circuit when glowing.

The ignitor on your model should draw 3.2 - 3.6 amps when glowing. If it was within those tolerances but the oven valve was not releasing gas into the oven burner, the valve would be suspect and likely need replacing. If the amperage draw was outside those tolerances, the ignitor would likely need to be replaced.

Thanks for the diagnoses.
The ignitor read about 2.8 Ohm resistance when hot. After replacement it was in the proper range and worked fine.

Sorry for the error in the last comment, my mind was elsewhere.
The current on the bad ignitor was 2.8 A when hot and glowing.
