Model Number: Spectra XL44 Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
Hi,
I think the top heater of my oven doesn't work. Whatever I bake almost burns from the bottom but top remains white/uncooked. This is my husband's oven and I've been using it for a year only - though the oven is almost 10 years old - so I'm not really familiar with it. Neither my husband is. I would appreciate if you could explain for a dummy Thanks a lot! Aycan Ads By Google Related Models |

Aycan,
""XL44" is not the model number. In order to provide most accurate advice we need the complete model number of the range. The Model Number Locator will help you. Gene.

Hi Gene, Now you would understand how clueless I am!! Thank you so much for your quick respond, I was about to call for a repair service because I need my oven for Christmas preparations. I thought maybe I could fix it, if it is something easy. That's why I'm here. Anyway, I found the model number : JGBP35BEA4BB Thanks again. Aycan |

Hi Aycan,
The part which you called "top heater" is actually the Broil burner and it works only when you use the Broil. During the Bake the oven heats up with the bottom Bake burner. Hopefully there is nothing serious with your oven. I found the Use and Care manual for your oven and I really recommend to read it, especially pages 10 - 13. Make sure you did not cover the oven floor with aluminum foil. The oven has to be preheated to correct temperature prior to cooking. Also the shelf position and the size of a cooking tray you used are very important. If you did everything correct and it's still overheating, you may want to measure the temperature inside the oven. Place an oven thermometer in the middle of the oven cavity. Set the oven to Bake at 350°F. Wait about 15 minutes after the oven preheated, open the oven door and check the thermometer. Post the results. Gene.
