Model Number: Can't Find! Looked everywhere! Brand: Hotpoint Age: More than 10 years
I just purchased and installed a new flat ignitor, with 5 inch ceramic, in my old Hotpoint. Easy as pie. I started up the oven and worked fine. After 4 minutes of being on, I examined it and saw that the ignitor was still glowing brightly. Is this normal? I am concerned that the ignitor is not getting a signal to cut off, and that may be why the old ignitor melted through its coil. I don't want to destroy my new ignitor if some switch also needs replacement.
Help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. I looked everywhere on my oven for the model number and can't find it anywhere. I looked in ALL of the usual places. Maybe my 5 year old can find it Related Models |

Dan,
Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it. I am at ease with the ignitor being on when the gas is burning then. I finally did find the label with the model number. It is under the range top, on the right hand side. It was so discolored I thought it was just part of the metal. I used Formula 409 to try to read it, but it removed all of the ink, and is unreadable. The unit has to be at least 20 years old, but it's a good stove, and I'd rather keep it than buy a new one. Again, thanks for the information Dan. |
