The two front elements ("burners") on my GE cooktop do not respond to the controls in the control hood. The right rear element will heat only one of the coils. The left rear element works normally. I had a repair tech check the stove and learned that the elements are OK but the controls are not functioning.
So replace the controls. That's the catch. This control hood/rangetop combination is over 30 years old and parts are not listed. I will need to have parts from a discarded control hood or use substitute parts that will function in place of the originals.
I need controls (switches) for left and right front and right rear elements.
Please, can anyone help me obtain parts for the control hood?
I am attaching photos of 1) the control hood with the switch (control) for the right rear element removed and 2) three views of the switch for the right rear element. Other switches will look similar.

GE switch # WB23X47 is replaced by part # WB23X58 which is discontinued. I'm afraid I do not know where you'll find old stock of either still kicking around. Sorry.

Dear JAKmog,

I too am in the process of rebuilding the exact same stove as you. I was looking for teh original WB23x47, but found the replacement part WB23X58, I found it at Appliance Parts Specialists: Appliance Parts & Accessories. It was pricey ($162.50 + shipping), but it's the only place that I found it avaliable. Good luck with your rebuild and keep in touch!

Thanks Bill - The fact that you found the desired part lead me to expand my search and I subsequently found the part at more than one source. Applaince Zone was one which listed the part for $142.24, still pricy but a bit less expensive. Haven't yet bought it but wanted to post my discovery right away to let you know of the prospect of a lower price.

Dear JAKmog, I ordered my part from "Appliance Parts Specialists" and te order went through (they were happy to take my money). After 2 weeks of hearing nothing, no response to my e-mails and no phone number to contact them, I started to get worried. Then i received an e-mail that my part had shipped, I was very excited. Another week+ went by and I just now received an e-mail that they were reimbursing my money and crediting my credit card. I have yet to see the creat show up on my account. I hope you didn't order from this company, i wouldn't reccomend them.
I was wondering if you ordered your part from "Appliance Zone" where you found it, and if so, how did the transaction go? Basically, I still need a switch. I'm hoping you had a good experience with them, so that I may order my switch from them as well.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Hi Bill - (I'm assuming the 'esq' is for 'Esquire' and is not part of your name.)
I haven't yet ordered the part. As you probably remember we have one heater element fully working and another partly working. (This has been enough stove for us to get by in the hot weather we've been having.)
I did remove the partly working switch with the hope that I might be able to repair it but couldn't get inside to analyze the problem. A friend of mine who does appliance repair suggested I try spraying the switch with some contact cleaner. Since I couldn't get inside, I sprayed some cleaner through an opening. While that didn't restore the switch, it did appear to improve the performance somewhat — works on higher heat level. I used CRC Electrical Grade QD Contact Cleaner because that is what was available at Home Depot. (As I recall Radio Shack didn't have anything suitable and Lowes had nothing)
My current plan is to remove the partly working switch again and swap it with one of the non-functioning switches. If that also swaps which elements work, I'll order a switch and install it. If that restores operation of its element, I'll order another switch.
Thanks for letting me know about Appliance Parts Specialists. I just checked Appliance Zone and they no longer list the part. Try doing a Google search for "GE part WB23X58." One place listing the part is MyPartShelf (this forum wouldn't let me give and actual URL) so add a 'dot com' to MyPartShelf then follow that with 'search.php?searchterm=cont&submit=Search+For+Parts'. I found it listed about half way down the long web page. Potential problem: I just checked to see how to order from My Part Shelf and see that they sell to "certified businesses in the State in which they operate." . . . May have to work through a local business.
Let me know what success you have with finding a part and making your repair. I'll do the same when I get something to relate.
Good Luck - And may the Lord bless your efforts. I think we'll have a hard time doing this job alone.
Jim
