Cool oven won't work but burners fine
Model Number: KGST307BBL2   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
I ordered a two leg gas valve twice. Installed them both and neither the broiler or oven will work. I have heard there is a thermal fuse in the oven. Could you tell me which part may be the culprit and where it is located. this was done because there was a gas smell and the gas company checked and found that the valve was leaking slightly. Can you help, it's been about 3 weeks now.

Question Ignitor glowing?

Quote:
neither the broiler or oven will work.
What are the ignitors doing? Glowing or not??

If the ignitor IS glowing but no gas is flowing to the oven burner to be ignited, there could be a problem with the ignitor or the oven gas valve. Seeing as the gas valve has been replaced, it is probably good leaving just the ignitor as the likely problem. And yes, an ignitor can glow and still be defective.

LINK > KitchenAid KGST307BBL2 Bake Ignitor

LINK > KGST307BBL2 Broil Ignitor

If the ignitor(s) is NOT glowing when the oven it turned on, a problem in the ignitor, gas valve, electronic control or the wiring between them would all be suspect.

You can read about how common gas oven ignition systems work and the tests that can be made to try to isolate troublemakers at the following link.

I have heard there is a thermal fuse in the oven.
I don't see any such device on your model. And if there was one, it would prevent the ignitor(s) from glowing altogether.

Unhappy Reply- still having no success

Thanks for the info so far. I have checked to see if both of the ignitors are glowing and they are. The control panel seems to be doing it's thing and the convection fan turns on as well. Didn't have an ammeter to check for proper amperage draw at the dual valve. (wouldn't know which connections to check anyway) Am I gettin in too deep?. I have a friend that has a better electric meter, all I have is a multimeter you can buy at hardware stores. The broiler glow ignitor has been replaced only a couple of years ago. I opened the access panel on the back and discovered the many wires and power block there. ANY DIRECTION AS TO WHAT TO DO NEXT? Thanks, Stan

Someone is going to have to check the amperage draw on the ignitor circuit. That's the only test left to determine the cause with any amount of certainty but if you use logic:

1. If the ignitor as glowing the control IS doing it job and is NOT the problem.

2. If the ignitors are glowing it is not a wiring or fuse problem.

3. If the gas valve has been replaced it is most likely good (especially if it's been replaced twice) and is unlikely to be the problem.

That just leaves defective ignitor(s) or no gas getting to the oven valve for some reason.

That doesn't mean it is good now.

The only other possibility might be if your model has a manual gas shut off valve for the oven and it was turned off but never on again. Such a valve is rare in appliances. There might be one for the whole appliance (often on the regulator) but not usually one just for the oven portion.

Thumbs down

Quote:
measured amperege at both legs of the gas valve at 3.0 amps each.
The oven ignitors used on your model should raw 3.2 to 3.6 amps. Anything more or less and they are likely defective and need to be replaced.

Unhappy Dear repair forum...I'm about to give up!!

I have just installed the new ignitor for the oven and it did not activate the gas valve as you fellas suggested. Once again, this is my second two legged gas valve installed and a new oven ignitor. As before, the burner tops are working just fine...still oven nor broiler working. WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW!! All of the controls on the panel are working as well.

Arrow Amperage?

What amperage is the ignitor drawing when it is glowing?
