Plate burns on high

My large right plate on my ceramic top stove has stopped adjusting to the temperature set on the dial. It burns on high regardless of what the knob is set to. What would be causing this, and can a fairly mechanical person make the repair?

I cannot find any info on the given model number.
Please check it.
