Model Number: MER6875BCS Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years
Suddenly, the inner burner of the triple burner on the R.F. stopped working. The outer two rings continue to function.
When I turn the knob to counter clockwise to turn on only the inner burner, the burner-on light goes on, but there is no heat and the heat-on light does not go on. When I turn the knob clockwise, the inner burner does not go on, but the middle and or middle and outer burner rings do work. Any suggestions on how I can fix this? Ads By Google Related Models |

Here are your parts
Model Search Could be that section of the lelement is burned out. You will have to check it with a meter. Here is a service manual and a tech sheet that should help. http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16023416.pdf http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16027361.pdf If you do not own a meter, I would suggest you purchase a one. You can get a decent digital multimeter for under $20.00. You do not need fancy though it is nice if the leads are a couple feet long. If it saves ordering one unnecessary part it has paid for itself and you end up owning a useful tool. Most places will not let you return electrical parts so if you order it, you own it. A couple things to watch when measuring ohms and continuity 1. Always remove power from the machine otherwise you could blow your meter. 2. Always disconnect at least one side of any device you are checking. This eliminates the possibility of measuring an alternate/parallel circuit path. 3. When checking for closed contacts and continuity use the lowest scale (Usually 200 ohms). Then try higher scales. This scale is 0 to 200 ohms so if the device you are measuring is 300 ohms this scale would show an open circuit which it is not, you are just measuring outside the scale's dynamic range. There is a good STICKY at the start of this forum about it's use.

Thank you denman.
I took the top off and tested the triple element. Got readings for the outer (~10 ohms less than spec - 72 instead of 82) and middle element (52 instead of 57), but the inner element returned 0 ohms. It seems then the inner element is defective. With this information and looking at the parts list, it seems I will need to replace the entire triple element (and not just the inner element of the assembly). Am I correct? Thank you for the advice and the documents - they have been most help and I am very appreciative. |
