My Whirlpool Super Capacity 465 oven wont stay lit!
Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Hello!
I just received this oven as a replacement from a friend of the family. He informed me the oven was working wonderfully (because that was the whole reson I wanted to get rid of my old oven). Got it home and installed, took me an hour and a half to get not-so-done chicken breasts!
MODEL # SF385PEGQ. This is the super capacity, accu bake 465 model by Whirlpool.
I removed the racks, and the two plates above the burner. During the pre-heat stage the burner will stay lit for approx. 2 minutes, then turn off, then it will intermittantly turn on/off. I noticed that the ignition heat coil (not sure if thats the correct terminology) would glow red hot and the burner would turn off. Could this possibly be the culprit? The ignition becoming to hot before the desired temp is reached?
After the pre-heat stage, the burner will stay on no longer than 20 seconds before turning off. I should mention that the broil works great, no issues there.
What I would like to know is: what part would I need to replace, and how to replace it myself. Sears wants to charge an arm and a leg just to come out, and I dont have enough arms or legs to go around...
Thanks!
