Default Viking Oven, igniter question
Model Number: VGIC 3656BSS   Brand: -other-   Age: 1 - 5 years

Viking Model: VGIC 365 6BSS, Ser #; R03090104837

The oven will not come to temperature. 400F on the dial barely gets you 200F or so. The broiler works fine.

I've been told it's the igniter(s)...if so are there more than one igniter? I ask because the oven does produce some heat.. just not nearly enough.

If the problem is an igniter(s).. then how do I get to them.

Many Thanks!! Looking forward to using the oven for Christmas dinner!!

Brandy

Default Viking ignitor problems

I have a VRGC 365 4GDBk viking ser # R11080225486 oven that I think the ignitor also is starting to fail. At various times, one burner comes on but the other does not, sometimes both come on at a reduced flame, and it is taking a long time to heat up the oven. (The broiler works fine.) This has happened before and I had a repair person replace both ignitors and it solved the problem. Does the flat ignitor that is sold here work on the viking?

hot surface ignitors are notorious for failing or getting "weak" and not draw enough amperage ( 3.2 - 3.6 amps ).... replacing both ignitors is always a good idea to start out with as the gas bi-metal valves don't fail very often. Ignitors can be replaced relatively easily ( with the POWER OFF ).... replacement ignitors can be ordered here, im sure..Ceramic bases should be similar / exact size and mounting bracket should be as close to exactly the same as original as possible!!!

I cannot verify that the Maytag part listed in the attached link is a fit for your Viking ignitor or not, but the string discussion is interesting. It sounds like the Viking ignitor has a poor reputation and the Maytag part is recommended.

The link below is discribed as a universal ignitor (flat style) and comes in at a good price; Appliance Parts Specialists Stove/Oven/Range Universal Flat-Style Ignitor - 12400035

I bet this componet is a rather standard off the shelf part and not specific to Viking. At the price listed, it's worth a try replacing both.

I'm having some similar problems with my VGRC365-6BD.

there are two ignitors for the bake burners & one for the broil burner. It is best to replace both ignitors for the bake if that is whats not working. Private message if you need anymore help. maybe I can help!

Since, pretty much ALL the ignitors are MADE by the same company as long as the person changing the ignitor is not MISREPRESENTING the client by telling them it is the OEM ignitor and charging them for an ORIGINAL and giving the client a NON-ORIGINAL. However, as the as the ceramic base is almost exact and the bracket is exactly the same, really, there is NO difference. And to tell you the truth, I have used the same BOSCH part on my VW as my BMW... they were both made by BOSCH, but it was half the price or the part at the VW dealer and the BMW dealer ..

I just replaced both oven ignitors with part # 12400035 and problem resolved. Heats to 450 in 15-20 minutes with both burners running full and steady. A little hunting around and I got them shipped to my door for under $80 for both of em.
