Red face Oven and Broiler do not work
Model Number: JGBP40WEC4WW   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Hi
My wife's Spectra XL44 oven and broiler are not working. (I'm only allowed in the kitchen to fix stuff!)
So here's where I'm at. The stove tops all work, so there's gas. I measured the 120vac at the Bake and Broil control board and they are working.
The broiler and oven glowbars do not glow. There are no failure codes. And if I don't get this thing fixed it's KFC for Thanksgiving .
Any ideas where to go next?
Thanks
Dan

Got a change for the symptoms listed above...... The broiler is working.

D,
You'll need to remove the racks, oven bottom, and flame spreader from the bake burner. Disconnect the wires to the bake burner igniter, attach your meter probes to the two wires from the cabinet wiring, select a bake cycle and check for 120 VAC to the igniter, no voltage would indicate a broken wire to the igniter or inoperative bake relay on the control,

Part number: AP3772909

Part number: AP3772909

If you have the 120 VAC at the wires, you'd have a broken bake burner igniter.

Part number: AP2014008

Part number: AP2014008

If you have the voltage, and the glow bar does glow, you'll need to check for a 2.5 to 3.0 amp draw or 2.5 to 3.0 VAC at the safety valve terminals, while the igniter is glowing, with a clamp on ammeter or multimeter.

I'm sure you'll do fine and have it figured out in no time.

Good Luck,

Update 11/13/2012
The ignitor is bad (open). Ordered it from this site and got it the next day. The instructions that came with the part do not cover my stove. The ignitor on the stove screws to the burner supply tube (part number 26 on the drawing) not the back of the stove as shown in the instructions. The parts bag includes 8 screws. Does the flame spreader (part # 219 on the drawing) have to come out? The ignitor is attached with (2) 1/4" sheet metal screws to the supply tube. I have pictures if that helps. The 2 screws do not want to budge, so before I have to convince them its in their best interest to come out I'm checking in with ya.
Questions: what are the screws for?, do I have to remove the flame spreader?
Thanks a bunch
Dan

I took off the bottom pan/guard (item 291-293) and I could get to the ignitor sheet metal screws. Replaced the ignitor, used the origonal screws as none of the ones sent had the same thread type.
For the DIYers the instructions could include removing the oven door, and bottom drawer. Then remove (2) 1/4" sheet metal screws on the tapered panel above the lower drawer just removed. Slide guard panels forward and out. The ignitor is now accessible.

Dan,

Great job, thanks for the extra effort.
Sounds like you're going to be OK for awhile, and thanks for the additional information.

Thanks and Good Luck,
