My wife accidently dropped a heavy object on stove top and it was damaged (dented and finish badly chipped). How do I go about getting old top off and installing replacment top (on order). It seems to be hinged at back underneath the the controls. Would greatly appreciate any advice. I don't have a repair manual.

You probably need a helper.

Lift the top panel up from the front. Remove rod support (#153 on the #3 break down diagram) from the slot on each side.
Holding the top panel up, move it to one side and release the hinge pin (#8 on the same break down diagram) on another side.
Move the top panel to opposite side and release the second hinge pin.
