Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Bake function on oven stopped working. Last time it worked there was an electrical burning odor. The broiler works. I am planning on replacing the bake heating coil, but wanted to see if additional wiring or parts should be replaced at the same time. I did not find any schematic or info beyond the coil. I do not want to risk an electrical fire. Any advice appreciated.

Do not rush with parts. Check the Bake element for continuity as well as other parts according to the wiring diagram attached to the reply.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for JENN-AIR W130 | AppliancePartsPros.com

Thanks for the diagram. As far as continuity, there is no heat at any point on the coil. I will try to check it out and let you know if it works or I if burn the house down.

I checked the element and it seems to check ok. I removed the back panel and noticed some burned insulation around the broiler connection (however it works). I note the red wire from the bake connects to the broiler at this same singed location. Being an amateur, I am not sure where to go from here but it appears the selector switch is the next item in line. Thank you for the help.

You wrote in the first post: "Last time it worked there was an electrical burning odor". In such situation the first thing I would do is open the control panel and check the selector switch and the oven thermostat for burned terminals and/or wires.

Gene.

I removed the back and top panels and found a singed area at the connection of the broiler coil. There is no other burned or singed area. As per your provided wiring schematic, a number of connections occur here. (control switch, bake coil, ground and oven signal light. Any help isolating the cause is appreciated. I can send photos if that helps.
Thank you

You did not write if you checked the oven thermostat and the selector switch (#20 & #21 on the diagram) terminals.

Default switch and t-stat test

Gene,
I checked the switch, using your diagram I switched to broil and tested contact #1 and #2 and (35.5) then turned switch to bake testing contact #1 and #3 (OL).
I checked the t-stat and did not get an (OL) reading when switched to broil or bake.
It seems I should replace the switch, however, I am still concerned about the burned/singed areas around the broiler connection. If the switch failed, would it send the fault to that location due to the ground wire? Is there anything else you recommend?

Thanks for your help.

Default Giving up

I purchased installed a switch but now neither the bake nor broil functions, (the bake light does not come on), however, if I turn the dial past broil (toward clean setting) the broil and bake start to heat slowly.
If anyone could provide an elementary procedure to help resolve, I would appreciate.
