I have a Roper oven/range. I think 1984. My wife was cleaning it and got a little too much water on it and something arced in the back. She saw a flash near the top. The selenoid and switch look messed up but my understanding is that this is only for the cleaning function and shopuld not effect the oven operation. True?

The cook top works fine- no oven or broil. The light on the backsplash does not light "oven" when turned on. I'm looking at part # 239802 Oven Relay.
What does a relay do? could it have blown from too much water?

What else can I look for. I can't find any fuses on the oven itself.

In such situation it is very hard to diagnose the problem without seeing the product. The first thing I would do is to remove the unit from the cabinet, remove the back covers and inspect all electrical parts. Do not forget to remove the power first. If it was arcing then it should be some marks on the wires or on the electrical parts.
If you would not see any then the best thing is to call a certified tech to check it for you.
Gene.
