Default Kitchen Aid electric range F2E1 error
Model Number: KERS807SSS00   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

My problem is with a Kitchen Aid electric range model KERS807SSS00. About 30 minutes after 6 oz of water boiled over onto the range top an intermittent beeping began and then "F2E1 - key stuck or short" error message displayed. The spill was quickly cleaned and never contacted the membrane switch. When I opened the range it was dry inside so maybe the spill was coincidental to the problem...? I believe the problem is either the oven control board (p/n 9761799) or the membrane switch (p/n 9761566). When I unplug the ribbon cable to the membrane switch the error code remains on the display. Does this mean the problem is with the control board? Thanks, Henry

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL KERS807SSS00 30" FREE STANDING ELECTRIC OVEN CONVECTION | AppliancePartsPros.com

I am assuming that you unplugged the stove or removed power from it when you were working on it and error keeps re-occurring.

Did you disconnect the ribbon cable at the control (clock).
The short may be in the ribbon cable so this is where I would disconnect it.

When the keypad was disconnected it should have given a keypad disconnected error so I agree with you that the likely cause is the control board (clock).

Part number: AP4343818

Part number: AP4343818

Since you have done some troubleshooting you may want to order from AppliancePartsPros as they will allow you to return the board if it does not solve your problem. See their return policy.

You may want to try the following.
Connector Cleaning / Checking
Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try.

Denman,

Thanks much for your advice. I will try it this weekend and post my results to this thread. It is good to know that AppliancePartsPro allows parts to be returned. In my experience most places do not allow electronics parts to be returned.

Thanks,
Henry

Default temporary fix

Hello Denman, et. al,

I tried unplugging the ribbon cable and cleaning all of the connectors. That did temporarily improve the situation as the controls worked again for a few minutes whereas before the error code would return as soon as I touched a control button. However, the error code returned after as few minutes. I checked continuity on each strip of the ribbon cable and they were all good. However, one of the ribbon strips at the edge of the cable is a light grey color while all of the others are copper. Could it be this strip was fried somehow and when voltage is applied it is unable to carry it? My next step, I guess, is to order a control module and a ribbon cable to try each. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier but I was at the lake.

Hard to say if the ribbon cable is bad. Sometimes they have the number one trail a different color so you know it is #1.

Does sound like a bad connection somewhere and I would do the same thing you are going to do.

thanks Denman! I ordered the control module and keypad from APP yesterday, but not the ribbon cable. I figure they are the most likely culprits. i hope to only need one and return the other. I'll post my results.

Hi Denman,

I just want to report that the problem has been solved thanks to your help and a new electronic control module from AppliancePartsPro.com The shipping was very fast - got it the next day. The install was easy. Thanks again for helping me to do it myself and saving me the cost of a service call which could have easily been as much as the part itself.
