The right front burner stopped working. Are chances good that the burner has failed or do I need to check the switch before ordering a replacement burner and limiter?

If you would like to save some $$$ then you have to check all components before you will replace anything. In that case you have to check the switch, the heating element with limiter and all wires involved. As Drags1998 said you have to have a simple multimeter.
