Model Number: JGBS23BEW3AD Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
Orig symtom - oven would not light and gas smell. Upon inspection, I found the burner had failed (in the area near the ignitor) as it had corroded away near the lighter holes and there was a large hole that most probably "cooked" the igniter.
I replaced the burner and igniter and was excited when the oven lit right up and burned properly! When I turned the oven off however, it didn't want to shut all the way off. Puzzled, I rapped on the control valve and it finally shut off. Then as i continued testing the gas smell returned (even with the oven off. Just replaced the control valve and now all appears to work properly (no gas smell and shuts off properly) So what's the problem you might ask? The burner is going crazy! The flames are so high the come up into the oven area. What the heck have I gotten into? (I'm getting into the manual for flame adjustment - but I wouldn't have expected this repair to get so involved) Ads By Google Related Models |

Do you use natural or LP gas? If it's LP you need to convert the valve.

I am LP - I thought the conversion was the regulator - not the valve. I'll recheck my manual.
Thanks for the reply - Bill 4/24 - you are right. Had to convert valve by turning nozzle clockwise (tightening) reducing gas flow. All good now! Last edited by bhaughee : 04-24-2009 at 03:29 PM. Reason: update post to correct |
