i have a hotpoint electric stove. Im not sure of the model but anyways the glass on my oven door broke and my landlord replaced it with plexiglass. She said that it cant withstand very hot tempatures but the door really doesnt get hot but that is not the question the question is that i heard that plexiglass when heated can release a toxic fumes and i was curious to if that is true before i used my oven

You are absolutely right and do not even think to use the oven. Besides fumes it's also a fire hazard. Tell your landlord that she must to fix the door using only parts authorized by the manufacturer. If you'll report it to the local Health authorities then she will be in big troubles.

Gene.
