Default GE double oven
Model Number: JKP37G0L1WG   Brand: GE   Age: More than 10 years

Gentlemen, I hope you can help me. I have an electric GE double oven that is about 15 years old. Several weeks ago, I discovered the broiler was not heating. I examined the the element and saw a blister on it and ordered a new broiler element. My wife used the oven self cleaning mode before I received the element. The oven went through the clean cycle just fine. I switched on the just oven last night and the broiler element came on. When I switched it to broil, it did not heat. Has the oven switch failed internally? Have you ever seen a failure like this? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Regards,
Jim

The first thing I would check are the knobs for the oven thermostat and the selector switch.

The knob consists of two pieces: the outer part with the temperature settings (or mode marks on the selector switch knob) and the central piece which goes on the shaft.

If the outer piece got dislodged, then it's very easy to put it back in the wrong position (180 degrees around).

If it happened then the dial reading does not match the real setting.

If this is the issue, assemble the knob in the right way and, using couple drops of a Crazy Glue, attach both pieces together.

Gene.
