![]() Model Number: J HC56 OV7AD Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
![]() Last night the wife was cooking and all of the sudden, there was some crackling and popping going on in the lower of the two ovens. (The upper one was not in use). Looked in the oven and a small section, maybe an inch or so long was glowing much brighter and looked like there was something melting on it. Turned it off immediately and the noises stopped. Upon further inspection, it appears that the heating element (it's the lower element of the two), was melting? Is this a normal occurance in the wear and tear catagory? The oven was clean and there was nothing slipped on the element itself. I'm at geecue301@yahoo.com if someone can help me out that would be great. This is my first post. Related Models |

![]() Here is a link I think your stove is included is the series
Model Search The "o" in your model number is a zero and also cannot have spaces when searching. Check the picture in the parts list just to be sure it is the same. Click on the picture and you will get a better view. Unplug the unit. Just undo the screw and gently pull it forward. Saw a post where the tech put a clothes pin on the wires to prevent them from going back into the oven. Great idea! If you have problems getting the wires off due to cramped space remove the back panel and do it from the back. You do not want to break the wires. If the wire ends are dirty clean them up with some very fine emery cloth before reattaching.
