I have an older Maytag 24" double wall oven that came with my house when I bought it in '05. It has served me pretty well through that time, though I did have to replace the upper oven bake element once. I moved away for a couple of years and rented out my house and while I was gone the renters seem to have scrubbed the ID plate so hard that the model # is missing now. I say that to clarify the ?? in the model tag above. I can't positivly ID my model anymore but by internet search the CWE5100AC seems like a slightly newer version of what I have.
On to the problem. The upper oven bake element wouldn't come one but the broil element worked so one day (BONEHEAD move alert) I decided to pull the element and test for continuity to see if it had burned out. The problem is that I didn't shut off the breaker first and it seems one of the terminals was a little off the connecter so when I pulled the element out it touched the metal of the oven box and shorted. There were a few sparks and the terminal connector that had stayed in place was a little crispy but no other apparent damage. The breaker didn't trip and the clock stayed on.:) Well I learned my lesson and shut off the power, pull and tested the element and it works fine. I replaced that terminal end and set everything back up but still no love. Now both the bake and broil elements won't heat up, though the oven is acting like they should. When I switch the oven to either bake or broil and set the temp the fan comes on like it should but the oven heating light doesn't light and the elements don't heat. I pulled the whole thing apart figuring that I fried something and would be able to see what it was to replace it but everything LOOKS fine. the question is what should I be replacing to get my oven back to working? I would rather not but start replacing random parts as that gets expensive.
BTW the lower oven still works fine.
Sorry about the length of this post but wanted to be thorough.
thanks in advance
