Model Number: JBP71 Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
GE Spectra electric range, Mod # JBP71 COF2CC
After a thunderstorm 3 days ago, we found that the breaker for the range had popped. After resetting it, the oven started up on its own, no buttons or dials were on, and we were not using the oven during the storm. A few minutes later the timer/alarm started beeping and F2 was displayed. None of the buttons or dials would turn the beeper or the oven off. Turned it off at the breaker. Did some research and everything pointed to the Temp Sensor. Replaced it and we still have the same problem. Ads By Google Related Models |

Could not find your exact model but here is a JBP71CK2CC parts breakdown
Replacement parts for GE JBP71CK2CC | AppliancePartsPros.com You will have to call to make sure the part numbers are correct. I assume that all stove top elements work OK It sounds more like the oven's control/timer is blown. You may also need to get a new faceplate on some units they are glued on with double sided tape. I would unplug it and check for any scorch marks etc. in the control panel first. Years ago when at the cabin we got hit with lighting, we also were not using the stove but it literally blew the oven door switch apart. Scared the livin out of us.

Yeah, I was beginning to think it may be the control panel.
I took the whole thing out earlier but I couldn't really see anything visibly wrong with it. I think I'll have an electrical guru friend of mine take a look at it. Maybe he can tell if it might be fried. A stove exploding would have scared the outta us also. As it happened, lightning did hit a tree near our wood fence and then jumped over and blew the top off of a fence post. Didn't get to see it happen, but we saw the results... |
