Looked online and it seems the popular answer to this could be a new oven igniter kit, which I've found (Part no.AP2150412). Looks almost exactly the same as mine.

But - this does glow when I turn on, and no gas comes out. I don't know what controls the gas which is why I need help. Is there a thermocouple that isn't sensing the heat, or does the igniter somehow bring it on so that would be all I need?

Sorry I can't give you the model number, it is painted and then scrubbed clean taking most of it off. The serial looks like NF02168655, it's from Sears in 2001.
