The burner will not light. the igniter does turn red and we smell some gas but there is no flame. What could be the problem? The valve?

Stimela,

You most likely have a weak oven glow bar igniter,

Part number: AP2020569

When it is glowing, it also has to produce 3.2 to 3.6 VAC to the gas valve or 3.2 to 3.6 amps onn the circuit in order to open the internal switch inside the valve, and release the gas.

Occasionally, the weak igniter can momentarily activate the switch and release gas and you get an odor.
