I have a GE glass cooktop self cleaning (free standing) oven/range that suddenly went out while I was cooking breakfast a few days ago. I mean, everything--oven elements and all range elements. The strange thing is that the oven light still works as well as the digital clock. When I turn the oven or the elements on, the indicator lights are red, showing that these should be heating up, but they are still cold. I checked my fuse box to see if any fuses were tripped, but all is as it should be. Does this oven/range have two different fuses within itself with one for the low wattage oven light, clock and indicator lights and another fuse for the heavy wattage of the heating elements on the range and inside the oven??? I searched for the model # and didn't know where to find it.

Without a model number I cannot say for sure. In any case GE likes to keep all tech info a secret so I probably would not be able to confirm it even with a model number. I can say that most units do not have a separate fuse for the stove top and oven elements so I believe you have a power problem.
Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. By the sound of it you have a fuse box so remove them so you can check them with a meter. Note: You should have 2 of them for the stove. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker. If this does nothing, check the voltage at the plug. L1 to L2 should be 240 volts L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts. If OK Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out If OK Check the power at the terminal strip. Do this with the heater off and on. Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!! |
