Model Number: YKERI501AW 0 Brand: Kitchen Aid Age: 5 - 10 years
We recently got a used Kitchenaid selectra electric range from some friends. Worked fine for two months then last night we were cooking a pizza and it was at 400 degrees and cooked the dough. Put back in with the toppings... said still 400 degrees with both elements on showing but actually nothing on, and stove top did not work. Electronic clock, and timer work, as do the auxillary 120 volt plugs. Breaker was not off (obviously) but I thew it anyways. Nothing. Unplugged and reset the clock still no go. Suddenly about an hour later (I kept trying it) the oven started warming up and the top elements worked... set it for 450 degrees but it only made it to 400 before suddenly shutting it all down again. Now as before only the timer and clock and auxillary plugs work.
Pretty sure I have to replace the control boards but cannot find a schematic on line and I do not understand how to remove the side plastic pieces to unscrew the top panel and get at the control circuitry and yes it is unplugged when I am trying to remove stuff. Ads By Google Related Models |

I also cannot find any info on line for the listed Model Number, please check it.
It sounds to me that you may have a thermal cutout that is tripping, shutting off the heating elements. Then when it cools down it resets. I would check into this before replacing any boards. I will keep looking but hopefully someone else has hands on experience with this unit or knows where to find a wiring diagram

Hi there, thanks for the reply
I have the orginal warranty doc for the stove and have checked the bottom drawer area label.. only difference is that they put the 0 right after the W so it is YKERI501AW0 on the oven itself. I too thought it was a thermal problem but if it was the unit would work again once it cooled. It does not work (and it is very cool) at all beyond the clock, the timer, showing elements of the stove on (but they are not) if you press bake, and the auxillary plugs. No oven, no burners. I am interested in knowing how to get to the top control boards. Do you unscrew it from the back? The plastic sides appear to be clipped in to prevent you from just rolling the controll section forward. ciao Carl |

Just wanted to say you get to the electronics and relays but taking out the two silver screw underneath the flourescent light bulb in the top of the stove. Then the front folds down.
As to the rest looks like a solenoid is not activating. |

Well I won't be back but for anyone trying to track down a similar problem here is the fix.
Once I could get access to the wiring harness I could check the voltages and found to my surprise that 240 volts it wasn't. One side was 122 volts but the other was only 28 volts. Now remember I checked the breaker and it was not tripped. This time checked the plug and the same readings.. obviously a wrecked breaker... Went and bought a new one. And as I was removing the old breaker the black wire just popped loose from the breaker. The electrician had missed the wiring terminal and the wire was just "plugged in". Rewired it correctly, put the breaker back and presto stove works. Short story... if the elements and the oven don't work still use a voltmeter on the plug voltages and definitely suspect the breaker even if it is not showing a problem. |
