Default Igniter Stays On
Model Number: TGF657BFW2   Brand: Tappan   Age: 5 - 10 years

When you light or preheat the oven, the igniter comes on, the gas lights. The igniter remains on but should shut off until there is a demand for heat again. Do we need a new igniter or a valve regulator of some kind that needs replacing? I downloaded all the manuals available on Frigidaire's web site and there is nothing that diagrams or explains this area in detail enough to help me figure out exactly what part I need.

We are hosting Thanksgiving dinner and that's hard to do without an oven. We can replace the part ourselves if we can just figure out exactly what it is we need.

Can anyone help?

Barb

The igniter is wired in series with the gas valve and stays "on" as long as the gas valve stays open.

On this stove, once gas is ignited and a sensor realizes the gas has been ignited, the igniter should turn off. That is what it has done up until now. In our case it is not turning off. Maybe I should mention that our igniter is a glow bar.

Does this help any to find out what part we need?

This is something very new to me for the last 30 years.
If you would like, you can learn how the oven igniter works from one of my previous posts
