Our oven ignitor was glowing red hot after doing a cold cleaning of our stove. I unplugged, wiped the interior of the oven out - several times over, including carefully cleaning where the ignitor plugs in near the gas line.

I plugged the oven back in and the ignitor sparked, and a wire caught fire. I received the replacement ignitor today, plugged it in. Sparking and smoking started happening near the connectors - and I immediately unplugged the oven.

What could be causing this? I am unsure of what else could be causing this short... Please help - thanks in advance.

Tim,

You most likely have water/moisture inside the connector, or the insulation is still moist, and shorting to ground.

How bad was the wire that caught fire, damaged ?

You may want to take a blow dryer and eliminate as much moisture from the connectors and wiring as possible.

Thanks,

:) :) :)
