Default Help - Install Exterior Glass Oven Door
Model Number: JGBP30WEV4WW   Brand: GE   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

The exterior glass of my GE oven door (XL44) shattered and fell out. I bought new glass at Appliance Parts, which was delivered. But there aren't any instructions for how to install. Also, I see some aluminum foil looking stuff hanging from the top of the door and on the sides, but no similar material came with the glass. so I need help installing the glass and I wonder what that foil-looking stuff if and do I need to order that?
Thanks.

Remove the door as described in the Owners manual (page 28). Place the door on a flat surface with the door handle facing down. Remove the screws holding the inner door panel and remove the panel. Looking at the door inside parts you should see if any additional parts needed. Post the results.

Gene.

Thanks. I took out the inner door panel. The heavy-duty aluminum foil stuff is 1/2 down each outer door side and across the out door top. It's bolted into the door frame. I can't see a function for the stuff.

Also, when I took the inner door panel off, two small metal shims (I think they're shims) fell out, but I don't know from where. They are each about 1.5 inches long, open triangular shaped with a little clasp-thing in part of the middle section. i can't for the life of me figure out where they go.

I put the new glass in and replaced the inner door panel. I can see that the shims probably prevent a person from screwing the two top long screws down too far, but where do they belong?

Thanks again.

Here are the best pictures I can get. Each "shim" or metal piece is about 1.5 inches long. Thanks again.

GE calls this part "spacer", and you are right, it should prevent these screws from being over tight. These spacers are shown as #320 on the diagram.

Default Same problem!

I am having the exact same problem as pjensen100. I have a GE range and have received the replacement glass for the oven door but no instructions for installing it. I am not clear on whether I need to worry about the foil that used to be attached around the top and upper sides of the glass but ripped out when the old glass broke. Any other tips? Thanks!
