The broil element stopped working, but the bake element does work. We tested continuity of the element and it was ok. What else could be wrong? We tested the wires from the switches to the elements, and all had continuity. If the thermostat is bad, could it affect only the broil element and not the bake element?

Your model number seems to be short several digits. Replacement parts for JKS06 models | AppliancePartsPros.comSince this is a GE I cannot get a wiring diagram, they like to keep everything a secret. But using JKS06BF1BB is shows a hi-limit thermostat (Item 157 in Section 2). On many units this only effects one element so perhaps it is open. Remove power from the unit and one wire to the hi-limit and check it with a meter should be 0 ohms. If OK, check the wires from the control board to the broil element. If OK then odds are that the control board is shot. The thermostat (I think you are referring to the temperature sensor) would effect both elements. But you could check it, see the below link Items 7, 8, 20 and 21. http://www.applianceaid.com/elecrange.html |

This oven is approximately 33 years old. It's our second oven, but I don't want to give up on it, since I like it tons more than my newer gas oven! Thanks for any input, I really appreciate it.

I could not find a wiring diagram for this unit. I was able to see an operators manual at the GE site that I think applies.
Remove power from the unit and check the bake/broil switch.
If the thermostat was shot I would think that it would also effect the bake element. But without a wiring diagram this is a bit of a guess. If it is a 2 wire thermostat then for sure it would effect the bake. |
