This electric range is so old that the brand name (Philco Ford) does not even appear on the list. LOL The tag on the back says it was manufactured in 1968. It appears that it is model number ss40j8 and serial number 9lw10246. In order to satisfy my wife, as she loves this unit, I am looking for a way to replace the electric surface elements. I would just like some concurrence that the only way to do so would be to take the elements in and match them up at some local appliance parts dealer. I have looked all over the net for parts. Can I use a universal connection kit and just buy the elements that match in diameter? Every time I find a dealer that handles Philco all I get is antique radio parts...LOL Anybody have any ideas on how to proceed?? Thank YOU...(looking for any answer except buy a new one...as in her mind that is a last resort...unless donation to an appliance museum might cover the cost..LOL)

That is what I would do, try to find a parts dealer that handles a large number of manufactures and carries a large stock. If you get a good person on the counter odds are high that they will be able to help you.

Also if you have the wiring diagram jot down the wattage of the elements you need. I am assuming that you have already checked the elements and confirmed they are burned out. Otherwise you may have a different problem re: controls etc.

Thank you both so much for your answer...All of the elements work as of now. The largest element however looks like it has a temperature control since when the temperature knob is turned up the knob indicates the temperature like 100 through 450 rather that just a heat number like 1-9 as all the other knobs do. It has what looks like a temperature monitor in the center of the element with a third wire, in addition to the two standard heating element power supply wires that are running to it. This third wire and the sensor have long since fried. Ever seen any thing like that??
