Model Number: PGLEF385CB2 Brand: Frigidaire Age: 1 - 5 years
Well my frigidaire range has let me down again.
Last week I used the self clean option on the oven. That function worked fine and finished and cooled down normally . However, after that, the door would not open. The door lock that engages when the self cleaning option is in use had not disengaged after the clean was complete. I was able to get a screwdriver in thru the front and move the door lock mechanism to finally get the door open. However, since then the oven does not seem to heat up properly. If I turn it nto say 375C it only heats to about 175C, while 400C only goes to about 180C, etc I am suspecting its the oven controll unit, but its $300 and I own it once I buy it whether its the problem or not. So I want to make sure I am on the right track Any suggestions or information would be appreciated. Thanks....D. Ads By Google Related Models Last edited by Dougj : 01-02-2009 at 06:12 AM. |

Does the Broil work properly?
Pull the Bake heating element out, remove the wires from the heating element terminals and check it for continuity. Check for 120VAC between this wires. Post the results. Gene.

YES the broil feature does work. The top element comes on and the oven heats to almost 550 C (the temp hown on the front display). It does however take considerably longer than normal to get to that temperature.
I pulled the lower element out and yes I do see a short if I place my multi meter across the two leads, thus telling me I have continuity. Next I placed my meter across the two leads that had been connected to the element, and turned the oven on. I read 240 v across those two leads. Doug |

Did you measure its resistance? Did you check the voltage between each lead and ground?
Gene.

I am reading the resistance across the element at 17 ohms, and I am reading 120v from each element lead to ground.
Also, the bake element is getting "cherry red". However when I set the oven to say 400 C, it starts normally and beeps when it should , indicating that it has reached 400 C, but the thermometer I have placed inside only reaches 125 C?? D. |

In such case the problem is a bad control board.
