Oven blows the cicuit breaker and makes a loud popping noise. Contacted a Frigidaure rep. by phone who said the problem is most likely with the "control board". Does this sound like a good diagnosis? If so, how much is a new control board and how difficult is it to replace?

Jim, Yes, a bad control board is a good possibility, but, Do the cooktop burners work ? Basically, your description indicates a "short" to chassis ground. You may want to remove the rear panel on the range, and check for shorted or damaged wires or element(s) first. Could you varify your model number, the closest I could find is: FGFL79DSC Good Luck, :) :) :)

Good Luck, :) :) :) Yes, you have the correct model and the cooktop burners can be lit by hand. Does that narrow anything down. There may be some blackness where a white wire connects to the speed bake light.

With that , you need to start looking for damaged, shorted wires in the harness at the back of the machine. Your top burner ignition system and your oven burner ignition system(s) are two separate components and circuits, with neither circuit working, I'd have to think you've lost L1 (120 VAC, usually a black wire)somewhere in the lower area of the main harness. Does your clock have a display, and the oven light work, etc. ? That's a good indication of a problem(damaged wire) in the lower harness, in the back of the unit. :) :) :)
