I have a Kenmore electric stove that is about 12 years old; the model number is 6880630505090, the serial number is IME1662805. When recently baking something, there was a bright flash from the base of the oven which then glowed orange for a few seconds. The oven's bake element no longer works although the broil does, as do the burners, clock, and oven light. When I try to heat the oven, it doesn’t heat to the full temperature as the light never goes out. Does the bottom element need to be replaced? If so, can I simply purchase one at a store like Home Depot and do it myself?

The model number posted does not come up, can you see a visual break in the bake element?

There is no visible break, but there is a lot of black crusting on the spot where it was glowing.

Then it does need replaced. There are two screws that hold it in place, unplug the range and remove the element. Look for a part number on it or take a picture and measurements.
