Model Number: 465 Super Capacity Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Ok, so after I ran the Self cleaning feature for the oven, I started cleaning the oven and decided it would be a good idea to try to remove the metal heating element to get better access. Well, I didn't cut the power (I know...dumb) and when I tried to put the metal heating element back, I guess I touched one of the wires to the metal around the casing and it poped. Sounded like I blew a fuse or something. I then went the turn off the breaker at the breaker box (I know, I should have done this before I started messing with it...dumb). Can anyone tell me what I've done? Can this be fixed? It smoked a little...I think it was just the current that melted a very small part of the insulation around the wires.
Can anyone help? Thanks!! Ads By Google Related Models |

A model number may help others help you
Model Number Locator Just about anything can be fixed but it depends on whether the parts are available and if it makes economic sense. Also what is the unit doing now? First thing to check is if the unit is getting the correct power. Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times, sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker. If this does nothing, check the voltage at the plug L1 to L2 should be 240 volts L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts. If OK Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out If OK Check the power at the terminal strip. Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!!
