About a year ago my Maytag oven had problems with a recurring F1 code which was accompanied by a loud beep. It could be reset but came back at various increasing intervals. After some research I reached the conclusion that the problem was the membrane keypad which I replaced at considerable expense. I don't recall if the replacement was purchased on this web site but the one I am using looks identical to the replacement listed (and slightly different than the OEM keypad).
Unfortunately the problem has returned. While I can clear the code by pressing reset it often returns moments later. I have discovered if I clear the code and unplug the ribbon connector it does not return but you have to plug it back in to use the oven functions. When the oven is actually operating the code will not come up, only when it is off. Any thoughts on what causes the failure. The surface does get fairly warm at times though it should be designed to withstand that.
I am reluctant to just buy another expensive keypad ( Part Details - WHIRLPOOL Switch membrane black, part number: AP4101624
) and would like some suggestions. Alternately the current operation would be improved if I could identify an extension for the ribbon connector associated with this part. The female end is difficult to access.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
