Model Number: mav7200aww Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
My maytag is making loud squeaking noises when it aggiates. Underneath the machine there is a large area of black residue, mainly around the pump, motor and transmission pullys. However, the noise subsides as it spins during the rinse cycle. Any ideas? Replace pump? WD40 to the bearings?

Tilt the washer back. Remove the belt and check how the pump is moving in both directions. If it does not move freely, replace the pump.

Do the same test with the transmission pulley.

Checked it as well. The pully does move freely clockwise and spins the basket when going counter clockwise. As I move it counter clockwise and it gets faster, when I stop turning, it stops instantly. Also the motor pully moves both ways easily.
When I checked the pump pully again, I can spin it, but it does not continue to spin after I stop turning it. Not sure if that matters. |

I am no mechanic, however I have a maytag purchased from LOWES. Had problem with loud squeeking noises during agitating which got worse and turned into grinding sounds during spin dry. Had repaired a few times in past. Turns out the seals on tose models go bad easy due to grit/sand residue working its way in. Once seal goes, water hits bearing and that goes bad. Replaced seal and bearing and works like new, until next time. If you have water getting into base this could be the problem. The tip from my repairman; clean off excess sand/dirt before washing which I had not been doing. Again, I am no mechanic, just sharing my experience with maytag washer.
