I actually have the same problem. I just replaced the dual-burner element (front right on our stove) because the outer (high) ring wasn't coming on at all. That now works, but now it's either on full blast or completely off. It appears I need to replace the switch, too. Agree? If so, what is the part # I need. If not, what else could it be?
Thanks in advance! N |

Hey Jeff,
So, I replaced the switch and no luck. Same behavior as before with the old switch: the burner comes on full-on or not at all - no variable control. I have some more info, though. Interestingly, I discovered that the front right burner also comes on when I turn on the *back right* burner (which also turns on). This happens with both the old and the new switch, I just didn't notice it before. Turning on the front right burner does *not* turn on the back right, if that matters. That would seem to point to a more central flaw. I don't believe this happened before I replaced the front right burner element last week. Any ideas? This is getting expensive (element + switch) Thanks in advance. Nate |

Hello Nate. It sounds like you may have it wired wrong, or you may have the wrong part. Please provide a complete model and serial number so we can help you with this. Thanks.

The stove is a Maytag MER5770AAA. I replaced the burner element with a AP4009116 (12002144) after which I had the problem where the element was either full on or not on at all. To fix that, I replaced the switch with a "AP4092288 (74002144) Sw, dual element (pri)" per this thread. Would it help if I sent photos of how the two parts are wired now?
