i think my thermistat is out. going to replace it. how hard is it to install.
What are the two plugs in the back? i just replaced the igniter. Is the thermstat harder or easier to do?

Why do you think the oven thermostat is bad?

What is the serial number of the oven?

the number I got off the oven is either ser. 05c951163440 or ANS.221.1b-1984. The gas doesnt come on and i put in a new igniter and it doesnt get hot or turn on. Oven is about 35 + yrs old. So i think it has to be the thermistat.

Not necessarily. You may want to check the gas safety valve (#7 on the diagram) for continuity first.

If there is no continuity then the gas safety valve is the culprit. The oven thermostat for this model with the serial number 05C... is no longer available.

theres no other thermistat that can fit that model. Not a universal one? Also how can I check the continuity? Dont know that much about this kind of thing. Thanks for your help Glen. I would have never thought of this.

In order to perform the continuity test you have to have a simple multimeter.

The following article on our forum will explain in detail how to run a continuity test using either an analog meter or a digital meter - How To Check Continuity With Ohmmeter

Unfortunately there are no any other thermostats I can recommend to use for this oven.
