Default spark igniter substitution
Model Number: KGT583A   Brand: Modern Maid   Age: More than 10 years

This 25-yr old nat. gas cook top spark igniter module has stopped working and its direct replacement is no longer available. The module is a Harper-Wyman, Kool Lite model 6521, 120V, 4ma. that came with my Modern Maid cooktop model KGT583A, s/n004363-042 The spark module feeds three separate burner sparkers. There is plenty of room and I don't care about the type of wiring connections. Does anyone know of a substitute part that might work? Part number and where to purchase, if possible?
thanks, meterman

Hi Meterman

Most likely you can use the Maytag spark module, part number AP204776

It is designed for four igniters but you can use it for three, just connect the fourth outlet to the ground.

Good luck.
Gene.

Thank you Gene. I believe this will work and I've ordered it. In fact, my old unit actually has contacts for four igniters but the fourth post is connected to ground.
thanks again, you've probably saved me about $1000.

Will do, but it might take a week or so before I receive the part & get it installed.

Gene,
The part arrived yesterday (excellent service). I installed it this morning and it works perfectly. You just saved me over $1000. that a replacement cook top would have cost.
Thank you very much,
Jack
