Model Number: WDP86801 Brand: Whirlpool Age: More than 10 years
Hello to all.
Ist post here, a brief scenario I have a Whirlpool glass top range model # WDP86801 , for the Canadian market. My symptoms were: oven not heating to temperature, everything else seemed to work except for the occasional burnt meal, but I put that down to user error Upon further investigation I found the bottom element had ruptured, an easy fix in the greater scheme of things. I have had no other error codes, but I did look at the Timer Control circuit board and noticed the damaged and burnt area see picture below: I do not believe that the two are related , however I may be wrong. I have been informed (by Appliance parts research Dept) that the part is no longer available, so fixing is the option of the day. Do any of you esteemed learned forumers(major sucking up here) have any idea of the components needed to be replaced to get the board back up to snuff. Thanks in advance. Without a schematic for the board it is doubtful that it can be repaired and I do not have access to schematics.
You would need electronics experience to do this. Looks like the overheating was in the power supply of the board so it has to be repaired and then what caused it to overheat found and repaired. Also the board looks pretty charred. The board would have to be cleaned back to the phenolic otherwise the carbon (charring) will conduct electricity and cause all sorts of problems. There are companies that do repair timers/control boards you may want to try one of them. Just Google "stove timer repair" I did find one in Canada "ApplianceTimers.ca". I have never tried them so cannot recommend them.

The schematic I was referring to was for the components/wiring on the board itself.
It is strange that the board still ran with the amount of damage it seems to have. Are you sure that the damage is to the board? Your wiring diagram shows that the power supply on the board is fuse and yet it did not blow. Also the elements themselves look like they have a fuse. So if the board seems to work but neither element is heating you may want to check this fuse. You said "My symptoms were: oven not heating to temperature, everything else seemed to work except for the occasional burnt meal, but I put that down to user error" These seem to be at odds with each other as low heat should not burn meals. Many units also use the broil element in the bake mode so perhaps it was burning the food.

Well, that will teach me for being a smart Alec, I was tongue in cheek with regard to the food burning. I am sorry if I misled you, it was a poke at my wife and her culinary skills.
One electrical component on the board just disintigrated when I touched it, it was shaped like a " Mickey mouse ear" obviously there was no way to tell what was written on the component as it was charred. It was right next to the "transformer" I am surprised that everything else seemed to work, however, perhaps it was not working and I just did not know it. I will keep you posted about the progress or lack thereof ! |

Just a quick update, I called Turner's and they asked me to bring in the faulty timer, lucky for me, they had one in stock $98.82 incl taxes, with a one year warranty.
It is in and all seem seems be working fine. They have a great deal of timers on hand, worth a try, if you are in the market and in Canada. The nearest quote I got to fix it was $158 plus tax from a parts supply store in North York. Thanks once again Denman for the advice. Tailor Below are the contact details for Turner's Turner's Timer Repair Phone: (416) 291-2102 1220 Ellesmere Rd Scarborough, ON,M1P2X5 |
