Model Number: SVE47600 Brand: Jenn-Air Age: 1 - 5 years
Hello, I don't know if the age of the range is correct or not. We recently moved in and soon after tried the Grill on the Jenn-Air range. Nothing but smoke throughout the house. We tried to start the downdraft fan manually with no luck. I posted on one Forum and someone told me to check the small relay board on the back and look for burn spots. Sure enough in an area where their were some resistors the board was burnt. I ordered the part and replaced taking one wire off the old board at a time and installing on the new board. I assembled everything and turned the grill on which is suppose to start the fan and nothing happened. I pushed the fan switch manually and nothing ( I found I have to push it in for a few seconds for the fan to start). The fan now runs but only seems to work with one speed and the manual says it should have a high and low. Now the problem besides that is with the fan running when I turn the grill on the fan shuts off!! Turn the grill back off and the fan starts automatically. Does anyone have any clue what is happening here? Thanks in advance of any replys.

Hope this helps, You are checking this operation with the grille element installed in the bay ? A standard cartridge does not allow the fan to run, and you have to use the D/D fan motor switch/selection to run the fan. If you look at the receptacle(prong)end of the element, is there a stainless steel shunt or jumper bar across the 2 right side terminals, this is how you get the power to the D/D fan when using the grille element and the fan runs at a slow speed. Try switching the elements in the bays, do you have the same problem in the opposite bay ? Try running the D/D fan with the cartridge(s) out, 1st press, fan on ,low speed, 2nd press, fan on,high speed, 3rd press, fan off. When you were working with the small relay board, are you sure you did not dislocate or leave the j4 connector loose at either board? You could have a defective "main" control board(the larger of the two boards), and it sure sounds like you may have a control panel key pad assembly on the way out. Try these checks, and let us Know what you find, we'll have a better idea of which direction to take.
