Model Number: KEBC207KSS05 Brand: Kitchen Aid Age: 5 - 10 years
I have a Kitchen Aid double oven where the top oven would not heat (bottom oven was ok). I checked the thermal fuse and temp sensor and both were ok. I then started checking the control board and noticed that the line breaker for the upper oven (part of the control board) was melted and one of the wires connected to the breaker had a charred appearance.
I had replaced the control board a few years ago due to another problem and still had the old board. So, I unsoldered the melted line breaker and replaced it with a good one from the old board. My upper oven was now working again, however I noticed that the charred wire was getting very hot within seconds of turning the oven on. To make sure that this was not a normal occurrence I turned the lower oven on checked the lower oven's breaker and wires. They were not showing the same problem and were still cool after 10 minutes of the oven being on. I am now concerned that there is another problem that is causing this wire to get so hot, melt the breaker, and cause a failure. Since I am far from a professional I am kind of stuck and don't know where to look next to get to the root cause. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank in advance, Joe Ads By Google Related Models |

Did you cut the wire back till you got to nice clean copper.
Any pitting, corrosion etc. in a circuit acts like a resistor (basically that is what the elements are). When current flows through this resistance it creates heat. For instance if you have 20 amps going to the element and a bad connection with 1 ohm of resistance then that connection is a 400 watt heater.
