Bake element went out half way through cooking Thanksgiving turkey. Replaced element, but now neither bake nor broil elements work. All clock / control functions appear to work normally, but no heat. Any recommendations on how to troubleshoot would be appreciated.

Here are your parts Replacement parts for MAYTAG MER5775QAW Range - S/c F/s Ele | AppliancePartsPros.comCould be that the element blew the hi-limit thermostat (Item 18 in Section 1) If you click on the picture of the part, a new page will open. Click on the picture of the back of the thermostat and you will see a red button. If this is popped push it in to reset the thermostat. Be sure to unplug the unit when doing this!!! |

Thanks Denman, I followed the wiring diagram which shows the hi-limit thermostat, but when I follow the actual wires, they go straight to the control panel. It doesn't appear that there is a hi-limit stat anywhere in the circuit, unless it's part of the control panel. I was hoping this wasn't the case, but apparently there is nothing else in the circuit that it could be. Thanks. Originally Posted by: kayakcrzy

Thanks for the link to the wiring diagram. It is pretty much the same as the one that came with the range. Unfortunately, there is only a jumper wire that goes from the P3, 3 and 4 poles on the plug. It appears they did not install the hi-limit switch, but just completed the circuit with a wire. I think I'm looking at replacing a control panel at this point unless there is something else I am missing. Originally Posted by: denman It is not part of the control panel. Just to be sure I went looking for a better wiring diagram since the one included with the parts is not very legible. Here is a manual https://secured.whirlpoo...d/$FILE/maytag_codes.pdfSee Page 8-7 Thermal fuse should be in the line that runs from P 3 (3&4) to L2

I cannot see anything else that would cause your problem. Looks like the only thing you can do is try a board. |

Denman, Just to make sure I didn't miss anything, I went ahead and isolated the wire from L2 to P3 on the plug. It has continuity, so I have to agree that the board is the next item. I don't imagine there is a schematic around to diagnose what component went bad on the board, let alone find the part. I'll let you know if the board is the solution. Thanks again for all your advice. Originally Posted by: denman I cannot see anything else that would cause your problem. Looks like the only thing you can do is try a board.

Schematics for boards are not available with some manufacturers you are lucky to get even a basic wiring diagram.
You are welcome.
And could you let us know it turns out then others will see what actually fixed the unit. |
