need help gor whirlpool gas stove, oven won't light but you smell gas to it.

debmike, have you tried removing the lower pan of the oven? That is where he burner is and ignitor are. Remove the pan and turn on the oven valve to any setting and watch if the ignitor comes on, assuming it is an ignitor and not a spark type. If it takes a long time before the gas comes on i.e more than 3 to 4 minutes, the ignitor is getting old but still may work. However, gas should not come on until it reaches the set high Temp. However, if the flame does not cross-over to the side opposite the ignitor, then you will smell gas (not good) but easily fixed. If cross-over slit is filled with metal particles it can be filed open with a triangular, or flat mini-file. If the holes near the crossover slit on the ignitor side are over sized, it should be replaced. See the Pro list for your model for the burner. They are typically not expensive... Rz
