Model Number: rbd245pd Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
I have an whirpool double oven with a e1 f2 code. Their are a few buttons that don't respond to touch also. I've researched the code and it says its either a loose touch pad conn. or it needs a new touch pad. I tried cleaning the connection and its still doing the same thing.
My question is how do i know its the touch pad and not control panel or both. PLEASE HELP! Phil Ads By Google Related Models |

This simple test will help determine whether the ERC (Electronic Range Control or Clock) or the touch pad is defective when F1 error code is present.
Note: Some models incorporate the touch pad in to the ERC as a single assembly, in which case this test is not necessary. Simply replace the ERC (Clock). Warning: If you feel in any way uncomfortable performing this test or making this repair, please contact a qualified appliance repair technician. 1. Disconnect power to the range (unplug the range power cord or turn the power off to the range at the circuit breaker). It is very important that the power to the range has been disconnected, so please double check before continuing. 2. Gain access inside the control panel. 3. Disconnect the touch pad (also called keypad or membrane switch) ribbon from the ERC. 4. Make sure there are no lose wires, or anything else that may cause a short when power is turned back on. Assemble the control panel back the way it was. 5. Turn the power back on. 6. Wait for at least one hour to see if the F1 code comes back (usually accompanied by a beeping sound). 7. If F1 comes back, replace the ERC. If it does not, replace the touch pad. Try this, and you will know which one is the problem. Tom ******************************************** |

I would start with the touch pad for a couple reasons you mentioned a couple others dont work and the board is giving out the code to truly verify it and its hard to do you ohm the touchpad out pressing individual pads verifying with a meter, It's luck of the draw and process of elimination if the touchpad don't work then its the board. You actually can save money having a repairman check it because it would be at his expense if he's wrong not yours........after I posted Kayacrazy has a better answer

1. Check keypad connector for firm connection (keypad connects to control board).
2. Press CANCEL. If error code returns after 60 seconds, replace keypad (also called touch pad or membrane switch). Some models incorporate keypad in to control board as one unit. In this case, replace control board (also called ERC or clock). This is what the manual says on how to check, which conponent is bad. This is for the E1,F2 symptom. The one is sent you is a general one. This is what the manual says, for your specific code. Tom ******************************************** |
